(Detroit, MI) -- Prominent Detroit Pastor Horace Sheffield the Third is being sued by a businessman for defamation of character. Thomas Hardiman filed the suit Thursday after Sheffield reportedly refused to retract statements he made alleging Hardiman tried to sway the election of Detroit City Council President. Sheffield allegedly told Detroit Police Chief James Craig and political consultant Adolf Mongo that someone offered to pay off his daughter's campaign debt, in exchange for her support of a specific candidate for Council President. Mary Sheffield was one of five new council members elected last fall. Hardiman is seeking 25-thousand dollars in damages.
