(Lansing, MI) -- MDOT says that despite using more salt than anticipated this season supplies are holding up all right. It's the budget, though, that's dwindling. So far, MDOT has used more than 440-thousand tons of salt this winter, about 80-percent more than this time last year. By the end of the winter MDOT anticipates using a total of more than 600-thousand tons of salt. MDOT reportedly expects to exceed its 88-million dollar winter budget by 40-million dollars meaning a reduction in non-winter maintenance activities through October of this year.
