Pension Vote On Detroit Bankruptcy Settlement Starts In May

(Detroit, MI) -- Oakland and Macomb counties are among the parties objecting to the city of Detroit's bankruptcy disclosure statement. Both suburbs cited an alleged lack of adequate information regarding a proposed Water Department authority, while the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union argued information on pension cuts has not been revealed. Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr says support from retirees on the city's turnaround plan would work best for everyone. The city is offering two different levels of cuts for retirees in both the Police and Fire system and the General Retirement System, depending upon whether beneficiaries vote for the plan of adjustment filed last month.
