House Defeats Motion Agreeing To Senate VA Reform Bill
(Washington, DC) -- The House is rejecting a Senate bill that would overhaul the embattled Department of Veterans Affairs. A motion by Democratic Senator Scott Peters of California to approve the Senate bill was rejected in a close 205-207 vote. Thirteen Republicans voted in favor of the motion, that would have instructed House conferees to simply agree to the Senate bill after negotiations between the House and Senate broke down today. All 207 no votes were from Republicans.
