(Grosse Pointe Park, MI) -- Supporters of the decriminalization of marijuana possession and usage hope that Grosse Pointe Park is a watershed for the state of Michigan. The Safer Michigan Coalition will turn in petition signatures tomorrow for a public vote on changing the city charter to end a ban on the drug. A win in the more conservative Wayne County town would send a message to the Legislature about the issue, according to proponents. Marijuana is illegal under state and federal law, although nine Michigan communities have passed similar initiatives in recent years.
