(Detroit, MI) -- The city of Detroit is celebrating a birthday today and the cake needs a lot of candles. Three-hundred-13 years ago, Detroit was established as a settlement of French colonists and native American trading partners. Back in 1701, no one could have imagined that Detroit would eventually rise to the top of the automotive world, earning the nickname "Motor City." Nowadays, many locals like to call Detroit "The 3-1-3", a reference to the city's area code which now matches the city's age.
