(Detroit, MI) -- A moratorium on Detroit water disconnections will continue for two more weeks as the city implements a ten-point plan to address non payments. Mayor Mike Duggan announced yesterday that delinquent Water Department customers will have lower down payments to start a repayment plan and late payment penalties will be waived during the shut off freeze. The United Way for Southeastern Michigan will administer a new Detroit Water Fund to provide assistance of up to 25-percent of a customer's bill. The department is adding customer service employees and the city will hold a water affordability fair this month.
